D2C Marketing Agency Cost in India: Agency vs Freelancer vs In-House vs MarketMind

For a small D2C brand in India, an agency suits big campaigns, PR, shoots and large budgets; freelancers suit specific tasks on a flexible budget; an in-house hire suits brands ready to build a team; and MarketMind suits brands that need daily posts, Meta and Google ads and Shopify SEO run on a fixed monthly fee from ₹9,999 + GST.

In short

  • Agencies usually charge a retainer, a percentage of ad spend, project fees, or a mix; freelancers charge per task, hour or month; in-house costs salary plus tools.
  • Prices vary widely by city, experience and scope, so compare what is included, not just the headline fee.
  • An agency or in-house team is the better choice for large brand campaigns, PR, complex shoots and big budgets.
  • Whoever you choose, ad accounts, pages and the store should stay in your name.
  • Ask about reporting, decision rules, minimum terms and exit before you sign anything.

The four options in plain words

  • A marketing agency: a team of specialists (strategy, ads, design, content, sometimes PR and production) that works on several clients. You get breadth, process and creative capacity.
  • Freelancers: individual specialists you hire for a task or a monthly scope, such as a Meta ads freelancer, a designer or a content writer. Flexible and often affordable, but you coordinate them.
  • An in-house hire or team: people on your payroll who work only on your brand. Deep context and full attention, but slower and costlier to set up.
  • MarketMind: your marketing team for a fixed monthly package. It writes and publishes Instagram and Facebook posts, runs Meta ads (and Google Search ads on Grow and Scale), applies Shopify SEO fixes, writes SEO blog posts on Grow and Scale, re-audits your store and sends a weekly email report, every day, within an ad-spend cap you set.

What each option really costs

Headline fees are hard to compare because each option bundles different things. Look at the cost structure first.

Agencies

  • Monthly retainer for an agreed scope (say, ads management plus a set number of creatives).
  • Percentage of ad spend, sometimes with a minimum fee. The fee rises as your spend rises.
  • Project fees for launches, shoots, websites or campaigns.
  • As a rough, typical range, retainers for small D2C brands can start from a few tens of thousands of rupees a month and go to several lakh for larger scopes.

Freelancers

  • Charged per post, per creative, per hour or a monthly fee for a defined scope.
  • Typically, a single specialist can range from around ₹10,000–15,000 a month for a narrow scope to well above ₹50,000 for an experienced performance marketer. If you need ads, design and content, you may hire two or three people.

In-house

  • Salary, plus software (design, scheduling, email, analytics), a laptop, and your own time managing and training.
  • Salaries for a marketing executive or performance marketer can range from a few lakh a year for junior roles to well into double-digit lakh for experienced people, and one person rarely covers every skill.

These ranges are rough and conservative. Prices vary widely by city, experience and scope, so treat them as a starting point for your own quotes, not as a benchmark.

MarketMind

  • Launch: ₹9,999 + GST a month. 12 posts a month on Instagram and Facebook, Meta ads, ad spend managed up to ₹1 lakh a month, Shopify SEO fixes, monthly re-audit, weekly email report.
  • Grow: ₹24,999 + GST a month. Everything in Launch, 24 posts a month, Meta and Google Search ads, ad spend up to ₹5 lakh a month, 2 SEO blog posts a month, re-audit every 2 weeks.
  • Scale: ₹59,999 + GST a month. Everything in Grow, up to 3 brands, 45 posts a month per brand, ad spend up to ₹25 lakh a month, 4 blog posts a month, weekly re-audit and competitor tracking.

Ad spend is separate in every case and paid by you directly to Meta or Google. Whatever you choose, make sure your ads clear your break-even ROAS, because the fee only makes sense if the ads behind it are profitable.

When an agency or in-house team is the better choice

MarketMind is not the right answer for every brand. Choose an agency or build a team if:

  • You need big brand campaigns: a national launch, a rebrand, a TV or outdoor campaign, or a concept that needs senior creative direction.
  • You need PR and media relations: press coverage, launch events or crisis communication depend on people and relationships.
  • You need complex creative shoots: models, locations, studio production, film crews.
  • Your ad budgets are large and spread across many channels, where dedicated senior strategists and custom reporting pay for themselves.
  • You want influencer programmes at scale with negotiation, contracts and logistics.
  • You are building a long-term brand team and want people who live inside your company's culture every day.

Freelancers are a good fit when you need one specific skill, such as a product photographer for a new range, or a designer to refresh your packaging.

Where MarketMind fits, and where it does not

MarketMind is built for small D2C brands, usually on Shopify or WooCommerce, that have no marketing team yet and need the daily basics done well and consistently:

  • Instagram and Facebook posts written and published on schedule.
  • Meta ads launched and optimised, with every ad judged against your own break-even ROAS: losing ad sets paused, winners given more budget.
  • Google Search ads on Grow and Scale.
  • Shopify SEO fixes such as titles, descriptions and alt text, plus SEO blog posts on Grow and Scale.
  • Regular re-audits of your store and a weekly email report.

You stay in control: a monthly ad-spend cap that is never crossed, an ‘Ask me first’ mode where posts, new campaigns and budget changes wait for your one-tap approval, every store change can be undone, and copy only uses facts from your own site. It does not do PR, film shoots, influencer negotiations or offline campaigns. Some brands use MarketMind for daily execution and bring in a freelancer or agency for those projects. As with any option, results are not guaranteed.

Questions to ask before hiring anyone

Use these with an agency, a freelancer, a job candidate or MarketMind itself.

  1. Who owns the ad accounts, pages, pixel and store access? The answer should be you, with the other party added as a partner or user.
  2. How exactly are you paid? Retainer, percentage of ad spend, project fee? What is included, and what costs extra (creatives, shoots, reports, extra platforms)?
  3. What is the minimum term and notice period? What happens to the work, files and accounts if you leave?
  4. How do you decide when to pause or scale an ad? Listen for break-even ROAS or CPA, not just ‘we optimise daily’.
  5. Do you account for GST, COD and RTO when you judge results?
  6. What will I see each week, and who do I speak to when something goes wrong?
  7. Who will actually do the work? With agencies, the people in the pitch are not always the people on your account.
  8. Can I approve posts, campaigns and budget changes before they go live if I want to?
  9. What do you need from me: product photos, samples, weekly calls, approvals?
  10. Do you promise results? Be careful of anyone who guarantees a specific ROAS, sales figure or ranking.

Questions founders ask

How much does a D2C marketing agency cost in India?

Agencies usually charge a monthly retainer, a percentage of ad spend, project fees or a mix of these. As a rough, typical range, small-brand retainers can start from a few tens of thousands of rupees a month and go to several lakh for bigger scopes. Prices vary widely by city, agency size and what is included, so always compare scopes.

Is a freelancer better than an agency for a small D2C brand?

A freelancer can be a good fit when you need one specific skill and can manage the work yourself. An agency brings more skills and process but usually costs more and may have minimum terms. If you need several skills, you may end up coordinating multiple freelancers.

When should a D2C brand hire an in-house marketer?

Hiring in-house makes sense when you have steady revenue, a clear plan, and enough ongoing work to keep someone fully busy. It also requires time to hire, train and manage. Many brands start with outside help and hire once they know which channels work.

Does MarketMind replace a marketing agency?

For daily social posts, Meta and Google Search ads, Shopify SEO fixes and reporting, it can cover what many small brands need. It does not do PR, film shoots, influencer negotiations or offline campaigns, where an agency is the better choice. Some brands use both.

Who should own my Meta and Google ad accounts?

You should. Whoever runs your marketing should be added as a partner or user on accounts that belong to your business. That way, if you change provider, you keep your data, pixel history and audiences.
